![]() ![]() I used a perfectly geometric font, to do this I used a compass to draw the round section of the text and a ruler to draw all of the straight sections. For Robbie I chose to design Impatient, perfectionist and short fuse.įor the personality trait perfectionist I chose to create my own hand rendered font. ![]() Once we had done this we then were asked to choose 3 personality traits of our partners and design a type to represent each personality types. We then spent time in the afternoon talking with our partners and finding out there different personality traits. On second week of the type project we were paired up with another person who we don’t usually work with, I was paired up with Robbie. I then proceeded to start creating these layouts on In-design, I still was quite new and not that confident with In-design when I started In-design when I did this project, but I managed to work by way through it and found it quite enjoyable to use in the end. I started this process by coming up with some thumbnail sketches of potential layouts, I wanted to ensure the layouts on each page were varied to ensure the pace of the booklet was good and not too repetitive. We were given the content for the booklet and also what page each section of content had to be on, and from there it was up to us to design the layout and the design of the booklet. It was to be called ‘Legends of the Screen’. This we we were given a new brief by Dave Taylor, this weeks brief was to design a 12 page booklet about famous directors. We also played around with the orientation and the placement of the title of the book, instead of placing it at the top of the page we decided to place it running down the side of the page, I really like the effect of this because I feel that it is very unusual and it makes quite an old book seem quite modern. We started off this project by drafting out a few different layouts, we decided to stay away from the usual book layout of one collumn and use two columns for the text instead. Again, we worked in groups for this project. We then had to consider all of these terms and had to create a single B6 page using part of the text from the Great Expectations. David started off this workshop by reminding us of all the different typographic detailing terms. The second workshop after the Editorial image workshop was the editorial type workshop. I feel this benefits the type specimen poster because it makes the blocks of text easier for the viewer to read and gives a sense of a stronger grid system within the piece. So I changed the paragraphs so they instead fitted across two columns with two vertical edges. David said that my line lengths were too long so I decided to scrap the way the paragraphs where wrap around the diagonal edge of the A and instead also take his advice about using the grid system and layout more. ![]() I also decided to change the formatting of the three blocks of text on my poster. Including the special characters in the poster shows the potential of the typeface. In response to this I decided to add in an extra row of special characters in the letter and the number part of my poster. More exploration of layout and your grid system may benefit.Body copy set well but the line length is too long.Opacity gives the final piece depth and the tint on the background works successfully. This week I decided to develop my type specimen poster in response to my feedback I received from David. ![]()
